Kaleidoscope Trust campaigns for a free and equal world for LGBT+ people everywhere. Now in its sixth year, the Gala raises funds to support courageous LGBT+ activists campaigning around the world, especially in the 72 countries that continue to criminalise homosexuality, many of which are Commonwealth countries, a legacy of British colonial rule. We speak out loud when we need to. But we also work behind the scenes, looking to persuade governments that access to healthcare, education and employment for their LGBT+ citizens is not just their human right but also in the national interest of the countries of which they are citizens. At home, we have continued to collaborate with civil society partners through the UK Alliance for Global Equality, which we now chair. We work closely with parliamentary allies individually and through groups like the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT Rights, which emerged of the Parliamentary Friends of the Kaleidoscope Trust. And we engage with other branches of the British government to ensure that the UK does all it can to support the global struggle against discrimination and criminalisation based on sexual orientation and gender identity, so that LGBT+ people can live freely and equally, everywhere.
