LGBT Issues And Mental Health: Mind in Camden

Mind in Camden presents: LGBT Issues and Mental Health Thursday 28th April 2016 10.00 - 4.30pm About The Course: LGBT people are at significantly higher risk than heterosexual people, of suicidal feelings, self-harm, drug and alcohol misuse and having mental health problems. Findings by the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP) have linked poor mental health to the experience of homophobia and bullying. Participants will increase their awareness of issues experienced (on a personal, community and institutional leve) by lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transsexuals. The workshop is suitable for anyone working or living with LGBT mental health services users, including: social workers, psychotherapists, counsellors, voluntary sector workers, friends and family Summary: Statistics, facts and terminology The effects of discrimination and homophobia on mental health Use of language How developing sexuality and related issues around coming out affect psychological development and mental wellbeing Understanding equality and diversity Developing socially inclusive practices and services About The Trainer: Dolly Sen is a writer, film-maker, mental health consultant and trainer, with lived experience of psychosis, mood disorder and PTSD. Her work involves key-note speaking, coaching, research, group facilitation, campaigning, social media and creative work.
