Paul Taylor-Mills Ltd and Amy Anzel Productions Ltd present the European premire of Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein Nominated for 4 Tony awards including Best New Play. Funny and provocative. Genuinely arresting. The New York Times A fascinating and timeless new play New York Magazine Casa Valentina gives us a glimpse into the lives of a group of self-made women as they search for acceptance and happiness in a high heel. Based on actual events, this delightfully insightful and hilariously entertaining piece is written by Harvey Fierstein, the Tony award winning writer of Kinky Boots, La Cage aux Folles, and Newsies. Back in 1962, most men went to the Catskill Mountains of New York to escape the summer heat, but others took the two-hour drive to escape something else entirely: being men. Nestled in the land of dirty dancing and borscht belt comedy sat an inconspicuous bungalow colony that catered to a very special clientle: heterosexual men whose favourite pastime was dressing and acting as women. In this cross dressing colony, they leave their families, friends and city jobs behind to safely inhabit their female alter egos and release their inner woman. However, when given the choice to share their secret lives with the world, the group has to decide whether the freedom gained by the openness is worth the personal risk. Casa Valentina reunites producer Paul Taylor-Mills and director Luke Sheppard: the team behind the smash hit In The Heights. Taylor-Mills is also reuniting with producer Amy Anzel for the first time since their critically acclaimed 50th anniversary production of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. Contains smoking.
