Soho Stories - Art History UK

Soho still remains Londons most colourful, energetic and vibrant 'village'. The district was originally a hunting ground for Henry VIII indeed the term Soho originates as an aristocratic hunting cry. Laid out in the Georgian period and known as Londons French Quarter, famed for prostitution in the eighteenth century, by the Victorian period it had cemented its now infamously louche reputation. Weaving our way through the darkened network of Soho streets, we will come across extraordinary communities, characters and stories from the past and present. These include club lands Ronnie Scott, gang lands the Kray brothers, emancipated Windmill Girls, the pornographer Paul Raymond, controversial artist Sebastian Horsley, gay mecca Old Compton Streets catwalk and Londons most recognisable drag queen Jodie Harsh. We'll be dining out in Soho for lunch after the tour, so please do join us. Details to follow nearer the time. If you would rather send a cheque, please pay 25 to Art History UK and post it to 148 Sulgrave Road, London, W67PU. For any other queries contact rose@arthistoryuk.com. A 10 deposit will be taken if you cancel within a week of the event, 20 within 24 hours.
